Aboriginal Victims of Crime Awareness Project
AVCA is a predominately a research project whose main focus is to raise
awareness among the Aboriginal population and among the various stakeholders
about the unique needs of Aboriginal victims of crime. The project will
also inform victims and those at risk of the services available to them.
To this end, AVCA will develop a series of resource materials based on
existing research which will be further enhanced by information obtained
through the facilitation of focus groups sessions. Additional resource
materials will include a poster, an information brochure, and a resource
manual. The availability of culturally relevant resources for Aboriginal
victims of crime and those at risk will create better accessibility to
services and increase the usage of both Aboriginal specific and non-aboriginal
victimization services
It is anticipated that the impacts of the AVCA project will assist
in reducing the incidence and prevalence of this project is anticipated
that overall victimization among Aboriginal people will be reduced as
their capacity to help themselves and their loved ones increases.
In addition to this purpose it is also anticipated that as service
providers and stakeholders become more informed that they will be able
to better assist Aboriginal victims of crime by referring them to relevant
services and by designing and delivering future services that are more
relevant to the special needs of these victims.
The Aboriginal Victims of Crime Awareness Project has fulfilled its
mandate and has run its course. Please check the project's main website
